I smoked almost 2 packs of cigarettes per day for over 20 years. I developed a nasty cough and the smallest physical effort would make me wheeze. My allergy symptoms were off the charts. I knew I had to stop smoking or I would stop breathing. I tried everything to quit: patches gave me a rash, broke a tooth using gum, lozenges made me nauseous, cold turkey failed repeatedly. I began using an e-cig, the so-called cig-a-likes. I still smoked regular cigarettes sporadically throughout the day because those old style e-cigs just weren’t very effective and they were very unreliable. Until I got my first pen-style e-cig. That e-Go pen made my last cigarette truly my last. Within a week, I was coughing up copious amounts of gunk from my lungs. But the coughing soon stopped, all of it. No more collapsing onto my bed after climbing the stairs, no more wheezing or sneezing. Within 3 weeks, my sense of smell improved. Food tasted so much better, except for fast food French fries. With my taste buds no longer dulled by cigarette smoke, I realized how much they oversalt the fries. One other drawback, smokers. I am utterly disgusted by the cloud of stink that follows a smoker. I am horrified in the knowledge that I smelled like that when I was a smoker and I never even knew it. I started my quit path using 36mg nicotine juice. I have since cut down to 9mg. 75% reduction in nicotine and 95% less harmful than cigarettes. I cannot understand how e-cigarettes are not being promoted by the health industry as the best smoking cessation technique ever. Regulators worry that flavored juice will attract kids to e-cigs, maybe they should take a stroll through a liquor store and see the cotton candy, bubble gum and fruit flavored vodkas available. Alcoholism destroys more lives than nicotine addiction ever will.
