I was taught to smoke at the age of 15 by my friends, as it was deemed the cool thing to do. Although I always hated the smell of smoke and the tobacco residue, I enjoyed the act of smoking – over and above the nicotine addiction. In my adult life (I’m 48 years old now), I found that smoking was my opportunity to escape for a few minutes and relax. My husband absolutely hates smoking, and although I would never smoke cigarettes in my house or car, the smell always stayed with me. He was continually asking me to try to quit and I did try several methods, including patches, gum, and medicine, – all to no avail. In November of 2011, my step daughter and her husband started using electronic cigarettes to quit smoking. The week after Thanksgiving the same year, my husband purchased a kit for me. I told him that I would try them, but no guarantees. To my surprise, it worked from minute one. Electronic cigarettes allowed me to enjoy the act of smoking, without all of the harmful side-effects. I had no reason to smoke, nor a desire to, from the first time I tried an electronic cigarette. I’ve been cigarette free since Thanksgiving of 2011, and have enjoyed all of the benefits of quitting smoking such as my sense of smell and taste returning, as well as losing that horrible tobacco smell. I use electronic cigarettes on a daily basis and will vape almost everywhere. Occasionally, I am asked to stop in a specific location and I do, but it is the very rare occasion.
