Hello All. My Story.. My wife had been an avid smoker for over 35 years and it has caused nothing but problems in our relationship since I was able to quit smoking 7 years prior. Its caused major problems arguments for us, everything from the smell in the house to the inability to travel because her addiction would not allow us to travel longer than 2-3 hours. She would crave cigarettes so bad she refused to travel longer. If you are not a smoker its hard to imagine the crazy hold these have over you and the illogical choices you make because of your addiction to them. She tried all the traditional stop smoking aids and none of them worked. We spent close to five or six hundred dollars a month to buy cigarettes that were sure to kill her one day. I encouraged her to switch over to electronic cigarettes and to be honest this was not an easy transition for her. We spent hundreds of dollars in different kits and e-liquid until she was able to find the right type of device but more importantly the right flavor (Chocolate Tootsie Roll flavored) which finally made her take the jump away from cigarettes. Had it not been for a variety of vendors who kept working with her to try different flavors and combinations she was sure to continue smoking. I am happy to report that she has quit smoking traditional cigarettes for over one year now, she no longer needs a nebulizers and has not had a bronchitis attack since quitting over a year. She carefully makes her own e-liquid now and has slowly weaned herself down to 4 mg of nicotine. She is now able to travel anywhere she wants without terrible cravings even while not being able to use her e-cig on planes or in restaurants. A ban on flavoring or easy access to nicotine would have made it impossible for her to quit because plain e-liquid did not work for her. Over the counter disposable e-cigarettes just don’t satisfy her or most people. If she didn’t have access to refillable eGo common kits, nicotine and all the e-liquid components it would have been much harder to switch and eventually wean herself down. E-cigarettes and Kids.. Kids don’t use electronic cigarettes and its not even appealing to them because the flavor is not sweet like candy it’s dry and harsh even when sweeteners are added. Smoking is not cool anymore. It stills often has that cigarette after taste because of the nicotine and still can burn the throat like a cigarette does. Electronic cigarettes are neat for adults but donƒ??t have that cool stigma attached to them like cigarettes did when I was kid. I smoked them because I had peer pressure and wanted to be cool because of the persona big tobacco successfully portrayed through advertising. You want to do something effective? You should actually carefully regulate the way e-cigs can be advertised if you want to prevent kids from using them not remove flavors or ban online sales which prevents adults from using and getting them. Electronic cigarettes are seen by children as a crutch to help parents get off cigarettes and having to use a crutch is not cool. The kids I have seen related to e-cigarette use are pleading with their parents to switch to them because they feel it will help them and save their lives. I have never once seen or heard about anyone’s under aged child using an e-cigarette and there is no documented proof of this to my knowledge. Kids don’t have credit cards required to purchase online either I didn’t get my first credit card until I was 20. The truth is online sales would only be banned to appease the states for tax reasons and big tobacco who has legally killed millions of people and should have no say in this whatsoever anyway. If online banning occurs it will be wrapped up in some lies about how it will prevent kids from using it but we have had e-cigs available online for twelve or more years and we haven’t needed any regulation in this regard in all that time why would we need it now. All you are going to do is create a black market and isolate those in remote areas that have no other means to acquire reasonably priced cigarette alternatives. Online sales have allowed it to flourish and advance in technology and become competitively priced to make it a viable option for so many former smokers. If it must be restricted online then I feel it would be best to only restrict the sale of nicotine and flavored e-liquid above 18mg to those with a license to handle nicotine safely and be on a wholesale basis only above 18mg. I believe the current e-cigarette vendors online or otherwise have all shown great responsibility in managing themselves in a safe way without any regulation for a very long time this has to be taken into consideration. Proper Advertising is the answer to your concerns We should not be enticing or advertising their use but rather applauding their use by former smokers who have taken the steps to improve their lives. Electronic cigarettes are not marketed as something that makes you cool but instead as a healthier alternative for adults who canƒ??t quit smoking. E-Cigs should never be marketed as something a non smoker should try because itƒ??s the thing to do. Honestly, a non smoker would enjoy a piece of cake or candy or gum more than an e-cig but hey if you eliminate flavors to just tobacco it might become something like cigars and we will have a hundred tobacco flavors. This might actually encourage former non smokers to use them. Having fruit and candy flavors separates these from the nasty tobacco cigarettes and cigars. There is something different here… There is something about the electronic cigarette delivery of nicotine that seems to make it easier to quit using it. Despite delivering a fair amount of nicotine its quite painless to reduce the levels of nicotine you are using to virtually insignificant levels of 2 mg and 4 mg and often reduce it to zero nicotine and eventually quit altogether. We find even using simple flavored e-liquid with no nicotine can sometimes be satisfying enough without the nicotine. My Plea for your help.. I am urging you to seriously consider our story and views on how potential online banning of e-cigs, removal of flavoring and excessive restrictions would force people to continue to smoke known killers in the form of traditional cigarettes. Please help us and support electronic cigarettes and all the aspects of using them and accessing them that have made it a fun inexpensive way for adults to quit smoking while improving their health and well being. This actually helps the children have loving parents in their lives longer. My Wife has lost both her parents due to smoking related diseases, had these been around and accessible sooner she would not have to miss them every single day.
