I smoked 30 to 40 cigarettes a day for 34 years. I had a shortness of breathe, had regular chest infections and had been diagnosed with COPD. I had tried to stop smoking unsuccessfully on 4 occasions over the last ten years ?? using NRT patches and gum and once with Chantix, and the last unsuccessful time a combination of NRT and a cartridge based electronic cigarette. On each occasion I resumed smoking after 3-4 months when out drinking with friends that smoked ?? and became re-addicted to tobacco. My wife and I started using electronic cigarettes 4 months ago and we have not smoked tobacco since. Improvements in the design of e-cigarettes have resulted in my being able to consume nicotine in a way that I find effective. If I am going to a party or pub with smokers, I simply increase the strength of nicotine liquid for the evening out. This is very effective, and I no longer have the concern that I might resume smoking tobacco ‘down the pub’. I consider myself a ??Vaper? not a Smoker. I find tobacco cigarettes unpleasant and have no desire to resume smoking ?? as long as I have an effective electronic cigarette substitute. I still consider myself addicted to nicotine and am concerned that moves to restrict and regulate electronic cigarettes may result in my having to revert to smoking tobacco. I use a bottom fed tank system and consume menthol or mint flavoured liquid ?? ranging from 10 to 24 ml depending on the circumstances. I have started to experience the health benefits of not smoking tobacco ?? I do not get out of breathe and am taking more exercise. Family and friends have commented on the improvements in health and vitality. Electronic cigarettes have liberated me and my wife from smoking tobacco cigarettes. My daughter who was also a smoker and her partner have also swapped to electronic cigarettes. We promote the benefits to other family members and friends that smoke tobacco. It feels as if there is growing trend away from tobacco to electronic cigarettes ?? it would be tragic if legislation compromised this development and the health benefits.
