I??m a 47 year old nurse. I smoked at least a pack a day for over 25 years. I’ve tried dozens of times to quit. I’ve tried cold turkey. That was always a complete failure. I’ve tried nicotine patches. They didn’t reduce the cravings at all. Chantix was mostly (but not completely) effective, as long as I continued to take it. But Chantix is very expensive you don??t have excellent prescription coverage. I don??t. It was cheaper for me to smoke. None of the ??recommended? smoking cessation methods were completely effective for me, even for a day. One day I stopped to buy a carton of smokes at my local tobacco store. On a whim, I also bought an inexpensive electronic cigarette for $8. I got in my car, took a puff, and said to my husband, ??This could work!? I smoked two or three tobacco cigarettes that night. The following day, I bought a package of five refill cartridges (1.8% nicotine) for the electronic cigarette for another $8. I went online and purchased a starter kit which promised more battery power. In the week it took for that starter kit to get to my door, I smoked less than two packs of cigarettes. Since the day that starter kit arrived, I have smoked ZERO cigarettes. For me, it was a completely painless switch. The use of electronic cigarettes has changed my life. Within two weeks I noticed an increase in my exercise tolerance because I could breathe better. I have more energy. My car, my office and my clothes no longer stink. I no longer smell like an ashtray. The tobacco stains on my hands are gone, and my teeth are becoming whiter. I am free of tobacco! I believe my addiction to smoking is much more complex than a simple nicotine addiction, and electronic cigarettes fill that void. After almost three months of vaping instead of smoking, I have begun to decrease the nicotine levels in the e-juice I use to fill my device. If only giving up caffeine was that easy!
