I started smoking cigarettes at 14 years of age, and smoked 2 packs per day until age 49. Over the years I attempted to quit smoking numerous times without success. I tried quitting cold turkey, using Wellbutrin, smoking cessation classes at a local hospital, nicotine patches and Chantix. With all of these I would gain weight and become irritable and moody. Inevitably, I went back to cigarettes. I first discovered electronic cigarettes in late September of 2011. I immediately felt this had possibilities in helping me to quit tobacco. It took a few weeks to find a nicotine level in the liquid to satisfy my cravings. But once I found the 24mg nicotine level it was very easy to quit smoking. The electronic cigarette supplied other things than just nicotine??they gave me something to do with my hands and gave me a feeling of something to inhale. I found that I no longer craved tobacco and had easily quit smoking in two weeks. I have not had tobacco since November 28, 2011 and have NOT had weight gain. I do realize that I have switched one habit for another. But, I feel much better, my clothes don??t stink of smoke, there are no second hand smoke issues, and my wife is much happier. I am working on cutting back the nicotine levels in my e-liquid and am currently at 6mg. My goal is to be at 0mg by the end of this year. I believe that I will achieve this goal but want to emphasize that I would not have been successful if I had STARTED at 6mg. During those first weeks I tried 6mg, 12mg, 18mg and finally found some satisfaction of my nicotine craving at 24mg. My current 6mg level has taken a year to achieve. In summary, I have nothing but praise for the electronic cigarette. It helped me quit smoking in ways that no other method could achieve.
