Here is the story of my success, but first a little background information. I am 54 years old and was smoking since I was 17, I tried every possible way to quit including hypnosis( 2 weeks smoke-free), nicotine patches (which I was allergic to the adhesive), nicotine gum (found it impossible to not chew continuously), wellbutrin (quit for 9 months and when I stopped the wellbutrin, I started smoking again). Other than the occasional too sick to smoke with a cold or an overseas flight, I found it impossible to stop altogether. Then I thought that Chantix would be my answer, I had nightmares, mood changes and depression. The depression got severe and so I stoppedƒ??. once again. I tried Nicostop (filters to attach to your cigarettes) and the disposable electronic cigarette from the smoke shops with prefilled nicotine cartridges (tasted just like cigarettes), however still had you craving a cigarette in between. Batteries needed charging and did not last through my 12 hour shift and longevity of the item was poor. So, I resigned myself to becoming a COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) patient, I had started wheezing when laying down and was getting progressively more short of breath with any form of strenuous activity. I am a Registered Respiratory Therapist and therefore know the sign and symptoms, as well as the progression of the disease all too well. However, knowledge did not help in breaking this addiction. Shortly after Christmas, one of my co-workers showed me her new gadget.. an electronic mod, that included a tank to hold ejuice (a nicotine juice that is labeled in mg), the voltage was adjustable therefore giving an individual adjustment to make it more like the cigarette you would smoke. The ejuice is available in different flavors from tobacco to sweets, dessert flavors or candy or in a DIY form. What I reall[y liked was the possibility to adjust your own nicotine level. My friend had a sweet cream and banana flavor in her tank and I really liked it, she also had it customized with a pretty wrap around the unitƒ?? henceforth it looked cute, which cigarettes never did ?? Over the span of a couple of weeks, I kept trying some of the different flavors she had and then I asked her to take me to the shop where she got hers at. On January 28th, 2013 I walked into this shop and was introduced into the world of vaping. I bought a mod that came with a couple of batteries and a charger, a couple of tanks, some cartomizers, and of course a snazzy wrap. I tried some of the ejuices at their counter and decided on one juice Mad H (sweet, mellow, slightly fruity) which is still a favorite. I also obtained some Alderberry ( berry and tobacco flavor mix) which I no longer use, since I canƒ??t stand anything that tastes or smells like tobacco anymore. I started at 24 mg nicotine which I was told is about the equivalent to a pack a day. I then decided I was going to surprise my two sons with a unit, tanks and ejuice as well, since they live with me and they would have to quit smoking around me for this to work. I still wasnƒ??t sure how or if this was going to work for me, but I was willing to give it a shotƒ?? until the store asked me for my pack of cigarettes, to nail to the wall, while they take my picture. Hmmmm, not that far committed yet, I told them they were in the car and let me get them, I snuck two of my cigarettes out and left them in the car, and then handed over my pack. AAs soon as we got to the car I had to light one of my cigarettes and right before I arrived at home had the other stowed away cigarette. I had spent quiet a bit of money that day and was not convinced this was really going to work but it was still cheaper for 3 people to get set up then my first prescription of Chantix, which the insurance company did not cover or assist with. So I smoked for 27 years, a pack+ a day and 1 day after I bought my mod I quit. Today it has been 184 days since I had a cigarette and I do NOT miss them. Not once did I cheat or was even tempted. I was able after the initial 2 weeks to go from 24 mg nicotine to 18mg (was getting headaches), after another month I was down to 12mg. I love the ability to adjust the amount of nicotine I receive. Currently I have several 0 mg nic juices, some 6 mg and some 12 mg and many, many flavors other than tobacco. Some days itƒ??s all 6 mg , some days 12 and 6 mg and some days all 0mg. I have spent quiet a bit on rebuildable tanks several different mods, from hybrids, to electronic and manuals. Functional tanks, bedazzled tanks, glass and unbreakable tanks and yet I am still at least 3000 dollars ahead after I calculated how much smoking would have cost me . My hair no longer stinks, my facial complexion is no longer greyish, my clothes smell nice, my hands donƒ??t smell, and I can now look at my patients and give them advice on quitting. I have not been wheezing or coughing or hacking up phlegm and I feel so much better. Yes I still consume nicotine but I am in control of how much. Cutting out all of the carbon monoxide, and combustion byproducts have made such a positive change for me. My oldest son was a chain smoker and he is down to a couple of cigarettes a day and vaping, my middle son quit altogether like me. I found the ECF after a couple of weeks vaping and after signing up, I have found this site to be extremely supportive, highly educational and 99% of the people not only a wealth of information but also willing to help each other in any way possible. Vaping has saved my life and my health, and I am forever grateful to my friend Danielle who introduced me to vaping.
