I have smoked for 18 years now. Over the years I??ve tried a couple of things to stop. Some of these things worked for a short period and some longer. I??ve tried the gum and patches, both of these worked for a short period of time but weren??t quite capable of keeping me off of cigarettes. I also quit just cold turkey. Although, I smoked sporadically while using both, the gum and patches, they eventually kept me off of cigarettes for about 6 months. The cold turkey method lasted about 1.5 years. About 9 months ago I began using an electronic cigarette or personal vaporizer. Now, I no longer use cigarettes. The beauty of personal vaporizers for me, is they fulfill the psychological need I??ve created with smoking. This was the most difficult aspect of smoking for me to cope with. I could also step down my nicotine like many other smoking cessation therapies. I started with 24 mg liquid and have worked my way down to using 1mg and 0 mg liquids. I use the 0mg all day long and switch the 1mg in 1-5 times a day. I have significantly lowered my nicotine intake without the unpleasant side effects of quitting. While I was smoking, I coughed much of the day. I became familiar with the strange noises my lungs made while I was trying to go to sleep. I had to keep tissues around for the constant need to blow my nose. The migraines I??m prone to, were more frequent. I got some form of respiratory illness every winter. Much of this has changed for me. Since I made the switch to ecigs, my life has greatly improved. I no longer cough all day or hear noises while trying to get to sleep. I can taste my food. I??ve no need for tissues. This winter I didn??t get sick. Those migraines visit me less often. My family informs me they much prefer my non-smoker scent. I prefer the way I smell now. I??m excited to see how I will feel in 2 years time. This is one of the better decisions I made concerning my health.
