I only smoked about 7 cigarettes per day, but I did that for over 27 years. I never tried to quit, never had any intention of quitting, and had no plans to ever stop smoking. I liked smoking. It was a very important part of my life. It gave me an opportunity to get away for a few minutes, to take a break, to be alone with my thoughts, to regroup and prepare to face the next challenge. The only real problem I was aware of was that my wife wanted me to quit. She would always complain that I smelled bad after having a cigarette. So while I didnƒ??t want to quit, I figured if I could find some kind of alternative I would be making her a lot happier, which was likely to make me happier as well. You know how that goes. Now you might think I could find other ways, and I did try to find other ways, but none of them worked. I needed something mindless to do with my hands. I tried a harmonica, playing with a slinky, whittling, drinking a cup of tea, really anything I could think ofƒ?? but it soon became clear that there was nothing like smoking. Yeah, I was going to smoke for the rest of my life, no question about it. And then it happened. My sister came into town for Fatherƒ??s Day, and we all went out for dinner. After dinner she pulls out an electronic cigarette, and it changed my life. Not only was it easy for me to switch from smoking to using electronic cigarettes, but now I have become an advocate for this new miracle product which has the obvious potential to save millions of lives around the world. Although I was nowhere near a heavy smoker, I have discovered that my health was being significantly impacted from smoking without my even realizing it. Since quitting some four years ago I can now hold my breath for 110 seconds, when I couldnƒ??t even hold my breath for 30 seconds prior to quitting. I no longer get winded from climbing stairs. Lately Iƒ??ve even started thinking about working out to lose a few of the pounds I gained since having knee surgery. Weƒ??ll see how that goes, but regardless, at least Iƒ??m not smoking anymore. And I now have absolutely no doubt that I never will again.
