My name is Matt; I am from just a medium size town from Kentucky. I am 30 years old and have been smoking for almost 22 years. Yes I started smoking when I was about 8 years old. I know that sounds bad but itƒ??s true. I quit smoking for 1 year cold turkey when I was 15, but back then I wasnƒ??t smoking that often. Back then I was smoking and using ƒ??dipƒ? usually Kodiak or Skoal. I would smoke about 2 packs of cigarettes a week and maybe a can of ƒ??dipƒ? a week back then. After a year I just decided to smoke a cigarette again. Quit smoking again when I was 20 when I joined the Army, the only reason I quit then was because the Army wouldnƒ??t allow it in Basic Training. While I was in my Advanced Individual Training I would still sneak a dip every once in a while. As soon as I graduated AIT I stopped and bought a pack of cigarettes after 6 months. Both of these times I was craving cigarettes all the time. After that I tried to quit cold turkey again and couldnƒ??t do it I was up to about a pack to a pack and a half a day. I lasted maybe 8 hours trying to quit cold turkey. A couple of months went by and I decided to quit again. This time I decided to try the lozenges. After about 2 days I was feeling sick all the time and very irritable. So this didnƒ??t last very long for me. Again a couple of months went by and I decided to quit again. This time I decided to try Chantix. The VA hospital gave me a bottle of Chantix; this seemed to work at first. For about a week I was constantly sick to my stomach, very irritable, and it didnƒ??t help with my dreams. I was diagnosed with PTSD before I started using Chantix and it gave me very nightmares again, which I hadnƒ??t had in about 6 months. I went back to smoking again after just 6 days. A few months went by and again I wanted to quit. This time I was going to use the patch. Using the patch worked well for about 4 days, then I started getting sick to my stomach just like before and again very irritable. On the 5th day I was smoking again. After a few more months a friend of mine had me try their E-cigarette. At first I wasnƒ??t too sure about it, I figured it was going to be the same as the past, works a couple of days then start feeling sick and irritable and go back to smoking. Since then I have been smoke-free for a little over a month. Now for the first couple of days I craved a cigarette every once in a while, but that was only for a couple of days. I went from about a pack and a half a day smoker to zero cigarettes at all thanks to these E-cigs. I started at an 18mg of nicotine E-liquid, now I am at about a 12mg of nicotine. I no longer get winded just playing with my dog in the backyard anymore. My sense of smell has come back, and I must say cigarettes freaking stink to me now. Iƒ??m no longer tired all the time. I was worried about gaining a lot of weight from quitting cigarettes, like a lot of people end up doing, instead I have been more active now, not getting winded all of the time and have not gained any weight. I am a strong believer in the E-cig, it has worked great for me. In the past month I have gotten at least 5 of my friends to quit smoking using these. This is my story of my journey to quit smoking. Itƒ??s been a long journey but I am finally off of cigarettes and havenƒ??t thought twice about going back to them.
